Yesterday we had 12 groups of anglers out and fishing was pretty good for most, Seen pictures of some “keepers”, but most of what was reported. were in the 17-20″ range. A couple groups didn’t do well, but that’s fishing.
I got a road established out to the north end of the Banana Reef, (about two miles for us). From the west side of Gull to the NE side of the Spider Reef where I had packed with the Bombi a week ago had good ice, 12-14″ and no slush under it where as some spots off the sides had 6″ of slush and 8″ inches of ice. Beyond that it improved, but there was still double layered spots I was breaking thru once in awhile. We need cold weather and no snow. Ice depths range from 8-9″ to as much as 14″ in layered ice. Without subzero temps we are not making any ice below, just water and slush freezing some on the top.
When it comes the next challenge will be to get houses to spots that are froze enough to go over the top. Alot of the in close spots on Pope’s, Gull, Spider currently have a lot of slush in areas where I would normally go, due to fishermen already drilling and fishing there, but they will freeze eventually. There is not enough ice to have anyone drive on yet so I don’t really want to get houses out too far either. So we wait. Next weeks weather will tell the tale.
We will continue with ATV’s, snowmobiles, side by sides and portables thru the weekend. We have plenty of parking available for trailer rigs and wheelhouse campers.
Keep a Tight Line! Be safe out there…
