Yesterday after getting roads and rentals open I did more ice checking and what I suspected was true. Almost everywhere off the existing roads, unless it was an area previously flooded and froze had slush under the snow. Until that freezes it will limit us putting out houses I’m not plow thru slush and set-up houses on thin ice, and I’m not going to park them on my roads. So until it freezes so we can go over the top of it pulling will be limited. Every day we will be checking areas and trying to get to spots we normally fish. Barring any big storm we will eventually get houses out there, it’s just a very slow process especially when we aren’t having sub-zero temps.
The bite was fairly quiet during the day, but last evening the bite picked up for the few that stayed for it. I expect this weekend with the full moon to be pretty good in the shallows. So far small sucker minnows have been outdoing most live bait for Walleye. The old reliable shiner minnow just doesn’t seem to do well anymore like it used to. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s because of the changes in water clarity.
Until further notice we will be limiting access for wheelhouse customers to paid seasonal customers only. At this time single axle/16ft pulled with 1/2 ton or smaller truck. If you are portable fishing we encourage you to bring a snowmobile , your accessibility will be better. We also have plenty of parking for large wheelhouse rigs that want to camp and portable.
Be Safe!
