Yesterday afternoon, the sun came out, and the bite picked up for some out there. Overnight, the shallower water produced the slot-sized Walleye, where the deeper action was mainly under the slot. Small Perch were all over on the shallow reefs, and Northern Pike were also reported in a couple of spots.
Ice depths are remaining around 17″ with some areas at 18″ or more, where the ice is rougher. A truck/wheelhouse combination with a total weight under 12,000lb (single axle or tandem) will be allowed out of our access and over the pressure ridge: no one-ton trucks and tandem houses. With only 17″ of ice that’s pushing it, rigs like that should not be running out there until there is 20″ of ice. The average 1-ton truck curb weight is 7500 to 9000 lbs, and the average 24-foot tandem house can weigh 6500 to 8000 lbs. Loaded together, they can weigh up to 16,000 to 18000lbs—just an FYI.
Looking forward to a good weather weekend and a good bite.
Eddy
