This summer so for for Cindy and I has been a summer of changes.
My daughter Andrea got married at our home on the Lake in June. A first for the Lyback family in the over 100 years . A beautiful place for a wedding if the weather cooperates. Fortunately is was a perfect day for her and all that attended. I started to back away from the marine business and am in the process of selling it. Making plans and will be building a retirement home off the lake on the SE corner of our property.
We FINISHED the remodel/restoration of the barn which the downstairs portion will be our new Ice Fishing Office. It will have new ADA Men’s and Women’s bathrooms and showers so fisherpeople will have a place to come in and take showers . The office has tables. and seating for 24. We have no plans to get into the restaurant/bar business, but will have coffee and assortment of bakery rolls from our local bakery in the morning. And possibly have frozen pizza’s to cook for the afternoons along with beverages, pop, juice, water. It will be a learning experience our first year to figure out what works, but we want to have something available for people when they come in and wait. All the ice fishing business, like check-ins, for lake access, rentals, permanents and wheelhouses will be in the “Barn”. No more Red House Office. After 68 years it will be a big change. There will be no more stopping there to check in as it will be available for rent by the week as we do in the summer. Everyone will need to stop at the “Barn”/office. It will take some getting used to for most I’m sure.
Mille Lacs so far this summer has seen much less activity than the past few. Lots of food for the Walleye has made for a tough bite. Between that and fuel costs there is less activity on the water. But there is a bright side to it as there as more to catch when the times comes, and they are healthy.
After this past summer’s fuel prices going up and the glimmer of hope they might drop some we have not decided on rate increases and will not until late August. Hopefully they will continue to drop but who knows with the way this country is headed currently. I have never seen this country go from boom to bust in less than two years like it has with the current admin in DC. But the winds of change are blowing…
Keep a Tight Line!
