This will be the first report of the 2021-22 season. Here we go again! 🙂
This past summer the lake level dropped 18″-20″ from where it was at ice-out. So some things will be a little different out there this year. The rocks on top Gull Reef are above water, (last time I seen that was in the mid to late 80’s. The shoreline extends from the treeline out about 30 feet. All in all it could mean some different patterns of where the ice cracks and shifts this winter as it has in the past.
I’ve been working on the barn/office all summer and I’m still hoping to have it up and running for this season. It won’t be finished in it’s entirety, but functional. I will make the final decision about it’s opening by the first week in December.
This year will Cindy and my 37th year running this ice business and be the 68th year since Phyllis and Clark, (my folks) started it. Cindy and I are planning a change of management over the next year so we can step down and not be involved on the day to day stuff as much. Especially Cindy. I’ll probably be involved like always as it will be pretty hard to get me out of a business I grew up in..
Let’s all hope for a “normal” winter out there on the ice, (if there is such a thing) with good fishing.
Keep a Tight Line!
