February 20th, 2014

The warmer weather has seems to help fishing out there some.  Nicer sized Perch and the Walleyes are definitely in shallow at night.  Some nice ones have been caught.

Today  thru tomorrow we we are forecasted to get snow.  We were in and advisory, but now are one the edge of a winter storm warning.  Hopefully it won’t be too bad.  We have had enough out there this year.

Private house owners must come up this weekend and get their houses ready to pull or call the office and make arrangements for us to get them ready.  We will be starting to pull them Sunday as they leave and Monday with no exceptions.  I’m not leaving them out any longer.

The Lybacks/TWP Tournament is going on as planned and the weigh-in will be held in the storage lot to stay out of the cold and wind this year.  Every contestant will need to register at the office and sign the waiver sheet or they will not be eligible for the Tournament. Office hours will be 7am-8pm  Fri and 5am to 8pm Sat.   I should have a prize list and tournament rules to hand out also.

February 17th and 18th, 2014

Monday and Tuesday the weather moderated and the fishing picked up.  Seems that the bigger  Perch were becoming more active also.  We  are moving houses  for the last weekend and we’ll see how they do.
The Lybacks/TWP Tournament is Sat Feb 22nd.  7:00 to 3:00.  Weigh-in and festivities  will be in the storage lot for the houses.  It is cleared off, there is  plenty of room for parking and it will be out of the wind as the weather after the snowstorm Thursday going back to cold.  Everyone must sign in and register at the office before fishing.  That can be done Friday or early Saturday am. before the Tournament  Office will be open at 5:00.  Prizes will be given out for The Biggest, The Smallest, and the “one in the middle”  They have to be game fish typical to Mille Lacs and must be within  Mille Lacs special Regs to weigh.  You can weigh as many as you want, but can only register one  fish for the contest.

Today we are getting ready for the snow storm coming.  It looks like we will be on the west edge of it which would be nice.  We just don’t need anymore out  there.

Saturday and Sunday some fishermen did ok with the fishing and others not.  More Walleyes were caught Saturday night, mainly on the rock and little Perch dominated the caught during the day Sunday.  Shallower reefs seen Northern action both days.

Sunday late afternoon the barometer started dropping and we are expected to get 2-4 inches of snow early Monday so I’m thinking the fishermen that stayed over  will see some good action.

Getting ready for the Lybacks/TWP  Tournament next Saturday from 7:00am- 3:00pm.  Still undecided where the weigh-in/prize drawing will be  yet.  Still watching the weather.  One fishermen brought up a good question yesterday that concerned rules.  #1, any fish brought in to weigh will have to be  within Mille Lacs Special Regs.  ( Which means Walleyes can only  be weighed between 18-20 inches).  (Also 33″ to 40″ Northern Pike cannot be weighed either.)  And the question of if a contestant can have multiple  weights, for example one in each category. You will be able to catch what ever you want and bring it in to weigh, but you will only be able to record one for the contest.  Basically one fish per contestant. It should be a fun tournament.

Keep a Tight Line!!
