Yesterday was spent digging out my Marine business from the snow. By late afternoon I was home working on the permanent house storage lot clearing that and hopefully will have that finished today. Tomorrow’s plans are to make a parking area along the driveway in the field where we always do. What frost we have in the ground is gone with the snow cover so uncovering it will get it to stiffen up before people start using it.
The ice out in front of us was showing signs of flooding as the water was making it to the top. That is a blessing in disguise. It will eventually freeze and we will in most areas go right over the top. We were fortunate to have only about 100 yards of “original” ice that was 7-8″ thick before the snows. From there on out is was only 3-4″ and that is what is flooding. The 7-8″ of ice is going to be the trouble as it has some water on top of the ice, but is thick enough to hold the weight.
I’m staying off the ice until Thursday and at that time will go out and see what has changed. Hopefully there will be some good news for portable fishermen. No promises yet.. I will make the call Thursday night for the weekend, and put it in the report.
Once the ice is passable for portable traffic. We will have plenty of parking room for wheelhouses that want to “camp” on shore and fish by portable. Permanents will be welcome to do the same in their houses in the storage lot. Alot has to happen out there before we get going….keep in mind we have really only had ice in front of us for a little over a week. so there is a long way to go..
Keep a Tight Line
