The mild fall weather pattern is starting it’s change this weekend. We will be seeing highs in the low forties and freezing nights. Depending on the weather and ice conditions, we will be opening the office/barn sometime around the first week of December. For those that have been calling the Resort number (320-676-8740) and getting an answering machine this summer was because we did not have the number at our new home. Last week we got a new phone system similar to the one we have at Lyback’s Marine and now can answer calls at our new residence when we are not at the office/barn. Now when you call someone will almost always answer like the old days…
I want to thank the permanent customers that came up this fall and worked on their houses. Some got new paint jobs, seen some new windows put in, even new siding on a couple. There are a few yet that need some work with runners, We will be working on them in November. It’s nice to see well kept houses in the lot and on the ice. It reflects on all of us and the Ice Business. There a few left that need attention and the customers were made aware when the seasonal rate letter was sent. Hopefully they’ll get up here before and arrange repairs before it’s too late.
From what I’ve been hearing about the fall bite I think this winter should see more activity than last. There doesn’t seem to be many “big” Walleyes being caught and there are alot of “under” the slot Walleyes being C/R. More Perch are showing up in the catch and i think this winter those fishing will see considerably more over “10” Perch than in the past few years. With the Walleye population generally smaller, some Perch have been able to grow past the “baitfish” stage and outgrow their predators. So maybe we will see some more nice sized Perch in the future.
Last year everything was against us it seemed and we were limited access to alot of areas we normally go due to ice thickness and huge areas of slush under the ice in shallow areas that just didn’t go away. Farther out we were running on thin ice with alot of snow. Overall it just plain sucked. Let’s hope things go a little smoother this season. As the lake gets closer to freezing I will resume posting daily. In the meantime you can watch the lake daily on our webcam. We’ll be working on rentals, lake trucks and getting things ready to roll..
Keep a Tight Line!
