Yesterday I spent some more time checking ice and in some areas things are looking good and in others a long way from it yet. From northwest of North Twin Island, out to the Tundra and east to the Banana there is areas of smooth clear ice that have only 7 to 8 inches of ice,and there are numerous wide cracks that are still moving daily. Some spots have more ice where it is rough, but with that much inconsistently it’s not wise to send anglers out that direction yet,Out towards East Spider, Graveyard ,Ray’s Reef and Popes, ice depths are consistent 11-12 inches  and very few cracks, etc.  I think all the cracks and shifting west of us is taking the pressure of the areas out in front of us, so that is where we will focus for this weekend. It getting better but seeing the areas with only 7-8 inches out there and some spots less tells me it’s early yet.

We will be allowing single axle wheelhouses with ATV’s out, side by sides, but no vehicles for the weekend.  I plan on pulling a few of our smaller “basic” rentals out on Thursday with the Jeep.  But that will be all until I see colder weather coming. So if you want to rent a house give us a call.  You will need to bring and ATV and something to pull to get gear out there. We will take you out and haul some for you, but you need a means of transportation during your stay in case of emergency.

6:00 pm update… What I thought earlier might happen again this year did, I predicted a night bite like the last couple winters.  Last evening was our first portable overnight angler and he did very well.  28″ plus Walleye and numerous others of all sizes. All after dark and thru the night.  I also got the Jeep out and disc and worked on some of the rough ice areas.  Unfortunately I heard on the weather forecast this evening that the warmer weather could extend thru next Wednesday, so i’m not sure what we will be doing other than what we are right now.

Keep a Tight Line!    Eddy
