December 9th, 2018

Saturday we had quite a few anglers show up and go out.  Our early morning check of ice showed between 9- 10 inches of ice in the clear “black ice” areas.  Rough ice areas were variable from 10- 13″ in some places. So we are gaining a little.

Anglers reports were mixed, but most all caught Walleyes in numbers.  I heard of 4 kept in the slot.  Also many reports of 5-10 inch Walleyes caught in a couple spots also. which is unusual this time of year, but good for showing a new year class. Most Perch caught were on the small side, however most reports of small were 8 inches plus, so there is hope for some larger ones in the future and when we can get out to more spots, will probably find them.  The reports were by about 4:00 pm when the wind switched the bite died. But all in all a most were pleased with their catch.

We are going to stay the course and keep doing what we are doing here with the ATV’s, etc. With the clear dark ice, (which is very brittle) and actually weakens quicker than the white ice when there is traffic on it we will be holing off pulling and allowing vehicle traffic until we have more ice depth.  This is going to be one of those years that driving slow on the ice will matter…

Keep a Tight Line!   Eddy
