Yesterday the weather was very nice and it was a good day to be out on the ice. Lots of anglers were out and some reported fair to good fishing while others had a tough go of it.  It seemed like the times and depths were sporadic and Walleye were caught  in on shallow reefs, out on deep gravel but the most consistent seemed to be 18 to 26 feet on the sides and tops of structure.  Lots of reports of “lookers” on the cameras and with the high barometer is was tough. As the snowstorm passed to our south overnight  some anglers had some pretty good luck by the amount of pictures sent in to me.  And with the full moon also, the ones in the right spots should have done well.

Starting three weeks ago we switched to reservation only, (which means call ahead and get on the list)  for wheelhouses that do not have seasonal passes. Those customers still need to call, but it’s on a different list. We have limited it to 50 per weekend. All, including seasonal wheelhouses, have to arrive and be on the ice before dark (which means no traffic until all hours of the night of wheelhouse rigs driving out and disturbing others already there fishing), and we keep things spread out so everyone has their space.  Our permanent house customers like it.  Rental customers like it. And the weekend wheelhouse customers that come here love it.  I found out also that it eliminated the “jerks”, (which sadly some are) and those coming here appreciate what we do, drive slow on the ice roads,( instead of saying they will at the office and as soon as they hit the ice its 30 mph).  Parking in others driveways, etc.  The customers coming here appreciate what we are trying to do.  Everything is less stressful and organized.  And everyone is happy…    🙂     The list starts for the next weekend on Tuesday.

Keep a Tight Line!     Eddy
